■ Background: Partnering with SMEs for "Carbon Neutral Management"
Ricoh’s "TRIBUS" program aims to create new businesses alongside internal and external entrepreneurs and startups. For its 7th cohort this fiscal year, the Ricoh Group designated "carbon neutral management support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)" as a key theme.
eMotion Fleet proposed its "Fleet Digitization and ElectrificationService for SMEs," which provides end-to-end support to visualize, optimize and electrify the current vehicle fleet and to achieve both economics and carbon neutrality. Recognized as a solution that enables Ricoh’s commitment to customer success, eMotion Fleet has been piloting its service through rigorous field trials.
■Overview and Results of Field Trials
The program validated eMotion Fleet’s service effectiveness through the following three approaches:
Internal Trial at Ricoh Japan Sales Office Telematics devices were installed in 10 fleet vehicles at the Tokorozawa Sales Office (Saitama Branch) of Ricoh Japan Co., Ltd. Data analysis over a three-month period showed a 5% improvement in safe driving scores, leading to better fuel efficiency even during winter season. Vehicle utilization analysis also identified significant cost reduction potential through fleet downsizing and sharing. Furthermore, simulations revealed that full EV conversion could reduce CO2 emissions by 54% and fuel costs by 45%, proving the compatibility of carbon neutrality and economic efficiency.
Joint Sales Efforts for Ricoh Japan Customers Based on these insights, joint proposals were presented to Ricoh Japan’s corporate clients. Strong market demand was confirmed as companies in the transportation and wholesale industries expressed proactive interest, stating needs to "start with vehicle data visualization" and "pursue carbon reduction through fleet electrification."
Scope 3 Decarbonization Strategies for Supply Chains eMotion Fleet proposed utilizing telematics to decarbonize Ricoh’s Scope 3 transportation partners. By calculating CO2 emissions using the fuel-based method (leveraging actual fleet data) rather than the standard ton-kilometer method, estimates showed emissions could be reduced by approximately half, confirming the effectiveness of more precise, automated carbon measurement.
■ Future Outlook
Following these successful results, eMotion Fleet will continue to strengthen its partnership with the Ricoh Group—a leader in GX—to support carbon neutrality for SMEs.
By scaling these initiatives across Ricoh’s own operations (Scope 1), customer solutions, and the broader supply chain (Scope 3), eMotion Fleet aims to support the sustainable management of SMEs that anchor regional economies and contribute to the creation of a future-proof society.
